Fiction Hotel
The Future is back!
The belief in the future during the sixties carried visions that exceeded the reality. The idea of strong future prospects really kept the development of the society going. The aim was laid at the magical boundary at the year 2000. Since then a state of vacuum has reigned. We wanted to shake life in the slumbering visions again! How do we live in the year 2050? We gathered a collection of interesting designers, theorists, entrepreneurs, scientists and companies with the intention to bring about commitment and raise questions about the future.
How do we live in the year 2050?
The project INSPIRED 2050 wanted to lift the perspective all the way to the year 2050. The ambition was to reach out to so many as possible with the insight that one can actually be involved in shaping the future. This was especially important during a time of crises and recessions. A positive belief in the future is necessary for the development of the society. The working process was a vital part of the project itself: visions, accessible creative angles of approach in workshops and lectures in schools around the country.
Seminars with industry culture and science with a purpose to grab hold of new ideas, spear head phenomena’s and innovative artistic expressions. We had no intention to give answers or to make any predictions, but to ask questions and to pave way for fantasy.
The exhibition Fiction Hotel October 2005 – February 2006 on Kulturhuset in Stockholm.
During the fall of 2005 Kulturhuset opened up the gates to the Fiction Hotel exhibition. It was to be their principal event during the Design Year. Fiction Hotel was result of the working process in the INSPIRED 2050 project. The exhibition dealt with people and their lives in the year 2050. There one could obtain ideas for inspiration and hope for the future, ranging from sky bound Personal Rapid Transit cars and floating beds to earthless gardens.
The exhibition also displayed future constructions and products. Swedish architects exhibited a virtual 3D-model of a future city environment and groups of young Nordic architects, designers and artists designed four different hotel rooms. Here one can sleep as on a cloud or safe and sound as in a pupa.
Design students fresh out of school from all over the world could give the visitor a hint about tomorrow’s products in the “Future Design Shop”.
Initiator and chief architect behind the INSPIRED 2050 project and the Fiction Hotel exhibition was Alexander Lervik.
